Climate Justice – CAFOD’s new international campaign

Climate change is an issue of justice: it hits the world's poorest communities first and hardest.
They are already bearing the brunt of droughts, floods and extreme weather conditions, while developed nations use more than their fair share of the Earth's resources.
CAFOD is calling on the rich world to take greater responsibility for tackling climate change. You can take action on climate change as part of living simply and sustainability, in solidarity with the world's poorest communities.
In March 2009, CAFOD will launch its new international climate change campaign , calling for a fair and binding deal at the United Nations which puts poor communities in developing countries at its heart.

What the climate justice campaign is calling for:
Governments must negotiate a socially just post-2012 climate agreement including:

• Recognition and support for the right to sustainable development of people in developing countries
• Provision by industrialised countries of additional, sufficient and secure funding and technical support to help developing countries adapt to the impacts of climate change
• Commitment by industrialised countries to at least a 30-40% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, based on 1990 levels
